Lucia Di Luciano Italian, 1933-2026

Overview

Lucia di Luciano is an Italian artist whose work sits at the intersection of optical, kinetic, and geometric abstraction. Associated with the Roman avant-garde of the 1960s, she developed a distinctive visual language grounded in repetition, rhythm, and the perceptual effects of line and colour, often exploring the dynamic relationship between structure and movement.

In 1965, di Luciano co-founded the group GRUPPO 1 alongside artists including Gastone Biggi and Giuseppe Uncini, contributing to a collective investigation into systematic and experimental approaches to abstraction. Her practice extended beyond painting to include environments and architectural interventions, reflecting a broader interest in how art operates within space.

Di Luciano’s work has been exhibited internationally and is held in significant public collections. Recent years have seen a renewed recognition of her contribution to post-war abstraction, situating her as a key figure in the re-evaluation of women artists working within European geometric and optical movements.
