Waldemar Cordeiro Brazilian, 1925-1973
6 1/8 x 8 7/8 inches
When Waldemar Cordeiro arrived in Brazil in 1946, he already had knowledge of Concrete Art, informed by the work of the Dutch artist Theo van Doesburg (1883–1931). By the end of the decade, after adapting to Brazil and briefly returning to Europe, he deepened his study of Concretism. His interest in geometric abstraction and in the relationship between art and science began to take shape in 1949, when he began to research more deeply the principles of space, time, and objectivity – concepts that would become central to his artistic approach.
