ALEX BACON, CHRISTINA BARTON AND MARY APPLE IN CONVERSATION
Alex Bacon is an art historian based in London and New York City who is also active as a critic, curator, and publisher. He is co-founder of Circle Books and, until recently, was a Curatorial Associate at the Princeton University Art Museum. Among his publications Bacon is co-editor, with Hal Foster, of a collection of essays on Richard Hamilton (MIT Press, 2010), as well as the author of texts in various exhibition catalogs and edited volumes. He is currently completing his PhD in art history at Princeton, with a dissertation on the first decade of Frank Stella’s career.
Christina Barton is Director of the Adam Art Gallery, Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand. She is a respected art historian and curator with a deep knowledge of New Zealand art and a particular interest in conceptual art and its legacies. Her retrospective exhibition Billy Apple® The Artist Has to Live Like Everybody Else was staged at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki in 2015 and her monograph, Billy Apple® Life/Work was published by Auckland University Press in 2020.
